Mwalimu and I have this one thing in common…

Leaders? Ok, yes but that’s not it.

…unconditional love for Tanzania and its people.

As intangible as that may sound, things done out of love have proven to be the most fulfilling.

Mwalimu, and I have very different roles when it comes to spreading love across and beyond the nation – He used politics, I use art but we both remain leaders in our respective dimensions.

I speak of Mwalimu like he’s still alive. Man died over two decades ago, I knew but I could barely comprehend his political influence in the world until after he died.

He was the first prominent Tanzanian I ever mourned. Though previous to Mwalimu, I mourned Tupac Shakur.

You see, people die twice – the first time is when our bodies stop functioning and the second time is the last time someone ever mentions our name.

People like Mwalimu Nyerere, Tupac Shakur and Mansa Musa are yet to die for the second time. They spreaded love and now they are being loved back. #NyerereDay
