24 hours a Rotarian

Apparently, I’ve been living a Rotarian lifestyle.

Over two years ago, I volunteered as a photographer at a sports fundraiser organised by the Rotary Club (RC) of Dar es Salaam Sunset and had a brief conversation with Rtn Evans Bukuku and I thought, ‘these guys are kinda cool.’

Down the road, I met Rtn Phil Kisamo from RC Oysterbay and finally Rtn Leina Lemomo, who invited me to RC Mikocheni.

After three months of attending fellowships and events with RC Mikocheni, I became a Rotarian myself and it has only been 24 hours since my induction.

Inducted by the District Governor (DG) Rtn Francisco Ssemwanga during his visit to Tanzania; in the presence of the Country Chair Rtn Diamond, fellow Rotarians and a special guest, my mama. DG Ssemwanga told me that I’m a very lucky man.

Meetings with Rotarians are filled with overflowing learning experiences. RC Mikocheni is made up of outstanding professionals in their respective fields. They meet every Wednesday after sunset at Hekima Garden in Mikocheni for the interest of the less fortunate, to figure out how to improve their living standards sustainably by fundraising for causes like peace, education, climate action etc.

As an individual who has been living a Rotarian lifestyle, the induction felt like a graduation.

Rtn Leina called me in the afternoon and addressed me as Rotarian Mahinya I told her that I rocked my Rotary pin to work with pride and coincidently, the colours matched my work outfit. The feeling resembles that of a child who just got a new pair of shoes, those shoes will be worn to bed.

People are asking, ‘what is Rotary?’ I explained with pride.

I thank each and every Rotarian for warmly welcoming me to this amazing family and for making the induction process a smooth one.

Club President Rtn Julia Seifert is very easy to work with and I look forward to working with this fantastic family and fraternity to create hope in the world.

Keep the samosas coming, hot and spicy.
